What to ask your wedding DJ?

Hey guys, happy Wednesday!

Music is one of the most important aspects of your reception but, unfortunately, it is often over looked till the last minute. Many brides and grooms find themselves scrambling to find entertainment, which can lead to either settling with a mediocre DJ or even an Ipod wedding. Sure there are some Ipod weddings that work, but are they as memorable and exciting as having a live DJ? No! Also, don't get stuck with bad entertainment, make sure you book your perfect DJ early. Here is an awesome article from Mydeejay that should help your search. Its filled with great tips and ideas to weed out mediocre DJs. Enjoy!

Songs to get your guests moving

Hey guys! Happy Wednesday!
Are you stuck trying to figure out how to get your guests up, out of theirs seats, and on the dance floor? A great way is by playing "old" classics. Not only will your guests know all the words to the song, but they'll most likely know all the moves to it too (or at least someone will, and they can teach other how to do it). Here are my top 10 choices to get EVERYONE moving:

1. Friends in Low Places- Garth Brooks
2. Wobble- V.I.C.
3. Yeah- Usher Feat. Ludacris and Lil Jon
4. Cupid Shuffle- Cupid
5. This Is How We Do It- Montell Jordan
6. Cha Cha Slide- Mr C. aka DJ Casper
7. I Gotta Feeling- Black Eyed Peas
8. Sexy And I Know it (or Party Rock)- LMFAO
9. Teach Me How To Dougie- Cali Swag District
10. Boot Scootin' Boogie- Brooks & Dunn

and of course ANYTHING MICHAEL JACKSON :)

"Trash the Dress" photo shoot!

Hey guys! Today I came across an interesting article on BuzzFeed News that I wanted to share with you all. Shelby Swink is a 23 year woman who fell in love with her college sweetheart. Swink and boyfriend got engaged on March 2014 after meeting each other in 2011. On the week of the wedding, after months of hard planning, Swink's fiance breaks the wedding off claiming he no longer loved her. After a few days of feeling numb, Swink's wedding date dreadfully arrives. Instead of mourning the date of her wedding, Swink faces the date head on and has a "trash the dress" shoot  (suggested by her photographer at Elizabeth Hoard Photography). Swink is joined by bridesmaids and parents in a liberating photo shoot full of different colored paint, cigars, champagne and mush more.

I loved how Swink celebrated her strength, instead of throwing herself a pity party. What an amazing idea by the photographer! Check out the full article on BuzzFeed News and see all the pictures!

“Instead of lying down and letting life trample over me, I decided to get up and face it head-on,” she said.

Flowers

Today I saw a future bride's status about how expensive flowers can be. I never thought about it until I did my own research, and WOW she was so right! Flowers are one of the main decorations at a wedding, not to mention you need them for bouquets and for boutonniere as well. This got me thinking, "hmm... if I was a bride on a budget, what are some alternatives for this headache?" Here is what I came up with:

Buy in bulk
Places like Sam's Club sell flowers in bulks. This makes it a whole lot cheaper if your a bride on a  budget. Do your research and checkout other places or websites that sell in bulks as well. Get informed! Be sure to read ratings from other brides who have bough flowers from this vendor before.

DIY!
This goes right along with buying flowers in bulk. Places like Pinterest and YouTube are filled with awesome DIY ideas and tutorials. Making your own bouquets and decorations adds that personal touch to your wedding. Plus, what are bridesmaids for (haha)? Recruit your ladies to lend a hand and help you out!

Choose seasonal flowers
Be aware of a flower's blooming period. Sunflowers are my favorite flower and they are perfect for a  summer wedding, because this is the season they bloom. This makes them easily accessible during this time of year, not so much during winter. Winter = more expensive!

Choose fake flowers
Silk flowers are a great alternative! They photograph great and last forever.

Use alternatives
Use things like feathers, bows, ribbons, etc, to add some volume to your bouquet and you wont have to use as many flowers. You can also use vases, plastic diamonds, mirrors, candles, etc, on center pieces and nix the flowers all together!

Hope that helped!

First Dance song ideas

In my opinion, one of the most special times during a wedding, is the bride and groom's first dance. I've watched first dances that have literally brought me into baby, sobbing, tears (what, don't judge me lol). But what if your not into the whole "super serious" thing? That's fine too! The whole point of the first dance is the image of the bride and groom coming together as a married couple. I did some research and came up with my own lists of "romantic" and "upbeat" first dance songs. Here is my list:

"Romantic"
1. I Won't Give Up- Jason Mraz
2. All of Me- John Legend
3. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing- Aerosmith
4. At Last- Etta James
5. A Thousand Years- Christina Perri
6. You Are The Best Thing - Ray LaMontagne
7. God Gave Me You- Blake Shelton
8. I'll Be- Edwin McCain
9. There Goes My Life- Kenny Chesney
10. I Don’t Dance- Lee Brice

"Upbeat"
1. Ho Hey- Lumineers
2. Everything- Michael Buble
3. I Will Wait- Mumford & Sons
4. Love On Top- Beyoncé
5. First Day Of My Life- Bright Eyes
6. I'm Yours- Jason Mraz
7. Marry Me- Jason Derulo
8. Not a Bad Thing- Justin Timberlake
9. Marry Me- Train
10. Such Great Heights- The Postal Service

Wedding trend- Bridesmaid dresses

So lately I've noticed a huge trend merging in the wedding world (yes, I'm one of those Pinterest freaks lol). I've noticed that more and more brides are assigning/allowing their bridesmaids to wear different dresses! Some bridesmaids have similar dresses, but in different hues of the same color. Here is an example: the wedding color is pink, but bridesmaids dresses range from hot magenta, to baby pink, to fuchsia, to rose. I've also noticed that it doesn't stop at the colors, some have complete different styles/cuts! They might be the same length (some aren't even the same length lol), but the tops of the dresses are different ie: sweetheart neck, one shoulder, scoop neck, etc.. I've also looked at pictures of bridesmaids with the same dress, but different colored shoes or the same dress, but in a rainbow range of colors. So are you as mind blown as I am? I was totally a believer of the same style, same color, old fashion way, but I kinda like this trend! There is nothing wrong with being different and letting your bridesmaids personalaties show through their gowns! But is it pleasing to eye? You'll be looking at these pictures for the rest of your life! Make sure to see ALL bridesmaids with ALL their different outfits before your wedding day, you can always make changes before hand. "Wow" your guests with uniqueness!

Entertainment Director

One of the features that separates Edge Sight and Sound from other Tulsa DJs is that we offer an Entertainment Director with all of our packages. An Entertainment Director? Whats that? An Entertainment Director is a member of our team, who works directly with DJ/MC and other vendors, to facilitate a smooth wedding day. What usually happens at weddings is either the mother of the bride or the maid of honor are left in charge of running the wedding.  This is a very overwhelming job, especially for two of the most important guests of the bride. By having an Entertainment Director at your wedding to specifically focus on you and your personalized itinerary, it leaves the maid of honor or mother of bride free to enjoy the wedding. The Entertainment Director also helps create the written schedule (itinerary) with the bride herself. On the day of the wedding, the Entertainment Director will distribute the schedule to key people (i.e. photographer, DJ, caterer) and they'll ensure all parties follow schedule unless instructed otherwise by the bride. An Entertainment Director will also coordinate with vendors to ensure details on dinner, drinks, champagne for toasts, cake cutting, photos and other details are planned with precision. They are there to keep the flow of the wedding and to make sure it runs smoothly. In other words, the Entertainment Director is a bride's best friend haha.

Ryan & Amanda Bennett's Wedding in Edmond Oklahoma

What a weekend! Family, friends and another Wonderful Oklahoma Wedding!

This past Saturday I had the honor of DJing for family in Edmond Oklahoma. My Cousin Amanda Willhite & her Fiance', Ryan Bennett had her wedding at the Boulevard Chapel & Reception Hall. It was quite the perfect venue for her wedding, having both the church & banquet hall in one location. The decor was classy and it was a great night. I was able to see some family and make the bride and groom's special day one for the books!

Ryan & Amanda, I'm so proud & happy for you two!

Wedding Reception for Johnny and Mai Nguyen

Johnny and Mai had their family and friends at the Wichita Country Club for their wedding reception this past Saturday. We provided karaoke, they provided the singers! Like all Vietnamese weddings, it was quite the party and the karaoke was a huge hit! DJ SmoothT and DJ Twitchy were spinning all night, and everyone had an awesome time. A special note goes out to all the vendors involved...you guys were awesome to work with! Also, thanks again to Johnny and Mai for having Edge Sight and Sound karaoke as a fun addition to your wedding!

Wedding Reception at the Cedar Ridge Country Club for Jill & Jody Vivion

What a weekend!

With weddings from
Tulsa, OK to Wichita, KS...we had a busy, fun-filled wedding weekend. I personally DJ'd a magnificent wedding on Saturday night at the Cedar Ridge Country Club. This was the FIFTH wedding we have done for Jill's graduating sorority class this year alone! I of course always love being at the various Tulsa country clubs. The wedding reception was held in the Club House with open access to the back patio with wonderful views of the sunset out on the golf course. As the night kicked-off, guests meandered about during cocktail hour enjoying an open bar and appetizers. Upon the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Jody Vivion, our newly-wed couple enjoyed their first dance as husband and wife and dinner was served immediately following.

After dinner, guests gathered inside the main entry for
the Toasts. The cake cutting was followed by hours of dancing and drinking ending with our Bride and Groom driving off into the Tulsa night. I have included a few photos for your viewing pleasure!

Wedding Reception for Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Mushrush

Last Friday, August 7, I served as the DJ and MC for Britni and Ryan Mushrush at Five Oaks Lodge in Jenks. I also enhanced the ambiance a little by uplighting the stone fireplace with LED lights - the lights were set to purple to match their wedding colors. The reception was beautiful, and the guest had an absolute blast! They ended the night by having everyone light sparklers right outside the entrance and then form a tunnel for the couple to run through. Fortunately there were neiter brides burned nor spectators gored during the frenzy and it made for some phenomenal photos! Overall it was a very memorable night for everyone that attended.

Thanks again Mr. and Mrs. Mushrush!

An Excellent Tulsa Wedding Show Weekend

A great weekend!

In addition to several wonderful weddings and a birthday party, we attended a wedding show. It was a busy but exciting weekend. The Tulsa Wedding Show (www.TulsaWeddingShow.com) was held at the Renaissance Hotel. Hundreds of brides were in attendance along with dozens and dozens of vendors. It is always great to see the vendors we work with at a variety of events.

To all of the brides that found our service to be the PERFECT fit for their wedding, THANK YOU! We look forward to working with you to plan the details of your wedding reception. A DJ does more then play music. We are in control of the overall flow of the event. In fact, the success of your wedding reception and the experience your guests will have and remember is dependent entireley on the ability of your Disc Jockey. With just six DJ's, you can rest assured you will get to work with YOUR personal Disc Jockey from day one.

To all of the brides that are still deciding on a DJ, please do not hesitate to give us a call or send us an email any time of day! This is what we do and we love it so let us know if there is anything we can do to help make your wedding a fun and memorable one.

We look forward to working with you all. Let the wedding planning begin!

We would love to hear what you think about our new look!
