Rainy day Weddings

Hello!

Am I the only that's incredibly tired of all the rain Tulsa has been getting? I bet I'm not, but life must go on and so do weddings. Here are a few tips to keep you and your guests dry and happy:
1. If there is a chance that rain will crash your outdoor wedding, create an alternative plan and let your guests know ahead of time.
2. If your wedding is outdoors, rent a tent to keep everything and everyone nice and dry.
3. Bring extra umbrellas and towels for your guests.
4. Have blow dryers and different toiletries in your venue's bathroom just in case your guests need to freshen up.
5. Pick a venue that accommodates indoor and outdoor weddings in case things need to be moved inside.
6. Welcome the use of rain boots.

Embrace the rain! It'll make for beautiful pictures :)

Songs to get your guests moving

Hey guys! Happy Wednesday!
Are you stuck trying to figure out how to get your guests up, out of theirs seats, and on the dance floor? A great way is by playing "old" classics. Not only will your guests know all the words to the song, but they'll most likely know all the moves to it too (or at least someone will, and they can teach other how to do it). Here are my top 10 choices to get EVERYONE moving:

1. Friends in Low Places- Garth Brooks
2. Wobble- V.I.C.
3. Yeah- Usher Feat. Ludacris and Lil Jon
4. Cupid Shuffle- Cupid
5. This Is How We Do It- Montell Jordan
6. Cha Cha Slide- Mr C. aka DJ Casper
7. I Gotta Feeling- Black Eyed Peas
8. Sexy And I Know it (or Party Rock)- LMFAO
9. Teach Me How To Dougie- Cali Swag District

"Trash the Dress" photo shoot!

Hey guys! Today I came across an interesting article on BuzzFeed News that I wanted to share with you all. Shelby Swink is a 23 year woman who fell in love with her college sweetheart. Swink and boyfriend got engaged on March 2014 after meeting each other in 2011. On the week of the wedding, after months of hard planning, Swink's fiance breaks the wedding off claiming he no longer loved her. After a few days of feeling numb, Swink's wedding date dreadfully arrives. Instead of mourning the date of her wedding, Swink faces the date head on and has a "trash the dress" shoot  (suggested by her photographer at Elizabeth Hoard Photography). Swink is joined by bridesmaids and parents in a liberating photo shoot full of different colored paint, cigars, champagne and mush more.

I loved how Swink celebrated her strength, instead of throwing herself a pity party. What an amazing idea by the photographer! Check out the full article on BuzzFeed News and see all the pictures!

“Instead of lying down and letting life trample over me, I decided to get up and face it head-on,” she said.

Winter wedding tips!

Here are a few things to keep in mind if you are having a winter wedding:
1. Choose seasonal hot dishes to keep your guests nice and warm.
2. Serve warm drinks like hot coco, coffee, tea, cider..
3. Consider an attended coat-check area to accommodate all those extra outdoor layers.
4. Choose a venue with a location that accommodates most of your guests.
5. Make sure the venue will keep cross walks, parking lots, side walks and such clear of snow.
6. Venue must be warm and cozy, not stuffy.
7. If you are taking pictures outside, don't forget to remind everyone to bring warm shoes (or choose a venue interesting enough to accommodate beautiful indoor pictures).
8. Just because it's winter doesn't mean you have to stick with white or blur themes, be creative!
9. Use candles! They add a warmth to the wedding.
10. Incorporate beautiful winter accessories such as wraps, shawls and jackets for you and your bridesmaids.

What to look for in a wedding DJ

A couple years from now most of your guests won't remember If you showed up in a large limo or if you had a chocolate fountain, but they will remember if they had a good time or not. At a Wedding, the DJ is the most important feature when it comes to entertainment. Here are a few things to keep in mind while picking your Tulsa Wedding DJ:

1. Don't go for cheap!!!
Cheap only means unprofessional, low experience level, low quality equipment and most likely no back up equipment/DJ. Unfortunately, you will get what you pay for. Do your research, find someone that is within budget, but also meets all your expectations.
2. Just because they are great at DJing doesn't mean they are great at MCing.
There is so much more to DJing than just playing music. A professional DJ/MC should be detail oriented, quick on his feet, quick thinker and enthusiastic. Spend time (previously to the Wedding) getting to know your DJ's personality and making sure they are a good fit for your wedding.
3. They will have an office.
If the DJ you are interviewing wants to meet at the local Subway or Bridal Mall you might want to reconsider hiring him. Having to talk louder than the other customers at Starbucks or having other wedding vendors trying to sell you their services isn't fun. An established company will invite you to their office so you don’t have to share your wedding dreams with the whole Starbucks line.
4. Make sure your DJ is a professional.
I have purposely used the word "professional" many times in this, because of how important it is in a wedding. Most DJs in the Tulsa metro area DJ as a part time gig, as a side business or just for fun, which means, your event might not be a priority to them. A full time professional DJ will give you their undivided attention, schedule meetings to go over paperwork and answer all of your important questions. They will also have legally obtained music, have a great understanding of all genres of music, high quality sound systems, and have insurance (a must for some venues).

I hope that was helpful!
And remember, anyone can play music, Edge Sight and Sound entertains.

Flowers

Today I saw a future bride's status about how expensive flowers can be. I never thought about it until I did my own research, and WOW she was so right! Flowers are one of the main decorations at a wedding, not to mention you need them for bouquets and for boutonniere as well. This got me thinking, "hmm... if I was a bride on a budget, what are some alternatives for this headache?" Here is what I came up with:

Buy in bulk
Places like Sam's Club sell flowers in bulks. This makes it a whole lot cheaper if your a bride on a  budget. Do your research and checkout other places or websites that sell in bulks as well. Get informed! Be sure to read ratings from other brides who have bough flowers from this vendor before.

DIY!
This goes right along with buying flowers in bulk. Places like Pinterest and YouTube are filled with awesome DIY ideas and tutorials. Making your own bouquets and decorations adds that personal touch to your wedding. Plus, what are bridesmaids for (haha)? Recruit your ladies to lend a hand and help you out!

Choose seasonal flowers
Be aware of a flower's blooming period. Sunflowers are my favorite flower and they are perfect for a  summer wedding, because this is the season they bloom. This makes them easily accessible during this time of year, not so much during winter. Winter = more expensive!

Choose fake flowers
Silk flowers are a great alternative! They photograph great and last forever.

Use alternatives
Use things like feathers, bows, ribbons, etc, to add some volume to your bouquet and you wont have to use as many flowers. You can also use vases, plastic diamonds, mirrors, candles, etc, on center pieces and nix the flowers all together!

Hope that helped!

TVs at weddings

Did you know we use TVs at weddings? By having TVs we can create custom slideshows to displaying your most memorable moments. Slideshows are a great way to highlight wedding engagement pictures, destination wedding pictures, baby pictures, family picture, etc. One of the most unique ways we have ever used our TVs was when the best man, a soldier over seas, did the best man toast over Skype! He was in a complete different country, but with our technology, was still able to be a apart of the special day. How awesome is that! Such a special moment that brought many to tears.

Father and Daughter dance

Last week I talked about some great songs for The First Dance as a married couple. This week I wanted to make my own list of some great songs for the Father and Daughter dance. I tried to pick some newer and some older songs, from different genres. Here is my list:

1. DAUGHTERS- JOHN MAYER
2. DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL- MICHAEL BUBLE
3. MY WISH- RASCAL FLATTS
4. DADDY'S ANGEL- T CARTER

5. STEVIE WONDER- ISN'T SHE LOVELY
6. CINDERELLA- STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN
7. THE BEST DAY- TAYLOR SWIFT
8. DADDY- BEYONCE
9. MY LITTLE GIRL- TIM MCGRAW
10. I LOVED HER FIRST- HEARTLAND

This was a difficult list to come up with! There aren't many "new" songs that are used for The Father and Daughter dance. Remember, this list is just to help get your creative juices flowing. There is nothing more beautiful than playing a song that is unique to you and your father's relationship. Also, our clients always have the option to create their own special mix.

First Dance song ideas

In my opinion, one of the most special times during a wedding, is the bride and groom's first dance. I've watched first dances that have literally brought me into baby, sobbing, tears (what, don't judge me lol). But what if your not into the whole "super serious" thing? That's fine too! The whole point of the first dance is the image of the bride and groom coming together as a married couple. I did some research and came up with my own lists of "romantic" and "upbeat" first dance songs. Here is my list:

"Romantic"
1. I Won't Give Up- Jason Mraz
2. All of Me- John Legend
3. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing- Aerosmith
4. At Last- Etta James
5. A Thousand Years- Christina Perri
6. You Are The Best Thing - Ray LaMontagne
7. God Gave Me You- Blake Shelton
8. I'll Be- Edwin McCain
9. There Goes My Life- Kenny Chesney
10. I Don’t Dance- Lee Brice

"Upbeat"
1. Ho Hey- Lumineers
2. Everything- Michael Buble
3. I Will Wait- Mumford & Sons
4. Love On Top- Beyoncé
5. First Day Of My Life- Bright Eyes
6. I'm Yours- Jason Mraz
7. Marry Me- Jason Derulo
8. Not a Bad Thing- Justin Timberlake
9. Marry Me- Train
10. Such Great Heights- The Postal Service

Wedding trend- Bridesmaid dresses

So lately I've noticed a huge trend merging in the wedding world (yes, I'm one of those Pinterest freaks lol). I've noticed that more and more brides are assigning/allowing their bridesmaids to wear different dresses! Some bridesmaids have similar dresses, but in different hues of the same color. Here is an example: the wedding color is pink, but bridesmaids dresses range from hot magenta, to baby pink, to fuchsia, to rose. I've also noticed that it doesn't stop at the colors, some have complete different styles/cuts! They might be the same length (some aren't even the same length lol), but the tops of the dresses are different ie: sweetheart neck, one shoulder, scoop neck, etc.. I've also looked at pictures of bridesmaids with the same dress, but different colored shoes or the same dress, but in a rainbow range of colors. So are you as mind blown as I am? I was totally a believer of the same style, same color, old fashion way, but I kinda like this trend! There is nothing wrong with being different and letting your bridesmaids personalaties show through their gowns! But is it pleasing to eye? You'll be looking at these pictures for the rest of your life! Make sure to see ALL bridesmaids with ALL their different outfits before your wedding day, you can always make changes before hand. "Wow" your guests with uniqueness!

Keith Boyd- small entrepreneur with a big heart

Now that everyone knows about Keith's Ice Cold Lemonade Stands, it's time to share a little bit of Keith Boyd's story. Keith Boyd is a young man who was born with Cerebral Palsy, a condition that affects his mobility as well as his ability to speak. While attending The Little Light House, a tuition free Christian school for children with special needs, he received his high-tech eye gaze computer, which is a speech generating device. Wow, how amazing is that? Keith was finally able to participate in life by making his own choices. A truly life-changing moment! By using his eyes Keith was able to develop his own business plan for Keith's Ice Cold Lemonade Stands. In 2012, Keith's firsts stand was created to simply generate enough money to buy a toy Keith had his heart set on. Keith made enough money to buy his toy and donated the rest to his school, The Little Light House. This was the beginning of it all. Although Keith no longer attends The Little Light House, he is still raising money to help his friends! Keith's new goal for 2014 is to raise $250,000 for The Little Light House. Yes, Keith has to work harder, but his struggles only make him more determined! All this couldn't have been done without Keith's amazing parents, James and Erin Boyd, who have been by his side helping him fulfill his dreams. You two are fighters and such beautiful, strong, role models! We, at Edge Sight and Sound, are so happy to call the Boyds our friends! You guys are an inspiration to us all.

Can't wait to kick of Keith' Ice Cold Lemonade Stands 2014!!!!
Stay tuned for locations! Also, If you are looking for volunteer work this summer check out Keith's website and be a part of this amazing fundraiser.

What a weekend! Family, friends and another Wonderful Oklahoma Wedding!

This past Saturday I had the honor of DJing for family in Edmond Oklahoma. My Cousin Amanda Willhite & her Fiance', Ryan Bennett had her wedding at the Boulevard Chapel & Reception Hall. It was quite the perfect venue for her wedding, having both the church & banquet hall in one location. The decor was classy and it was a great night. I was able to see some family and make the bride and groom's special day one for the books!

Ryan & Amanda, I'm so proud & happy for you two!

Johnny and Mai had their family and friends at the Wichita Country Club for their wedding reception this past Saturday. We provided karaoke, they provided the singers! Like all Vietnamese weddings, it was quite the party and the karaoke was a huge hit! DJ SmoothT and DJ Twitchy were spinning all night, and everyone had an awesome time. A special note goes out to all the vendors involved...you guys were awesome to work with! Also, thanks again to Johnny and Mai for having Edge Sight and Sound karaoke as a fun addition to your wedding!
